New food businesses must register with their Local Authority 28 days before starting business. This is set in the Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs, Article 6(2).
You must also tell us if there are any major changes or if a place closes. This is to make sure that we always have the most up-to-date information.
Some businesses need to meet higher standards (see: Approved premises for food), if they deal with:
- Meat;
- meat products;
- dairy products;
- or fish products from the raw state.
