Calderdale offers a superb landscape for outdoor recreation. In a short distance, you can move from still lower valleys to the open expanse of the South Pennine Moors.
As well as walks, the area has a number of areas to climb that are nationally known, like:
There are many old 'pack horse trails' across the hills. Many of these are are 'bridleways' and offer the chance for mountain biking and horse riding alike. The Pennine Bridleway National Trail, including the Mary Towneley Loop also passes through the area.
We have a number of promoted routes in the area, such as:
Pennine Way. This premier trail also passes through the district.
Always follow the Countryside Code when you walk, cycle or ride there.
Self guided walks

The Friends of Calderdale Countryside have made a series of 'Walks around' leaflets. These cover Blackshaw Head, Ogden Water, Warley, Todmorden, Stainland and Shelf and many more. They can be bought from Todmorden Tourist Information Centre and the Visitor Centre at Ogden Water.
