Camping sites
If you allow your land to be used as a caravan site you must hold a licence issued by the local authority.
If you allow your land to be used:
- As a camping site by the public;
- for more than 42 consecutive days or 60 days in a year.
You must have a licence from your local authority. Conditions may be attached to a licence.
There are exceptions for organisations that hold camping exemption certificates.

There is no charge for this licence.
When an application is made, it will be deemed to be made unconditionally. This is unless the local authority gives notice that the application is refused or conditions are attached.
Eligibility criteria
There is no provision in the legislation: Public Health Act 1936.
Note: Planning permission for the site is needed before a licence can be considered.
Will Tacit Consent apply?
No.
It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. We will try to issue a licence within six weeks of a completed application form being submitted.

Licences will not be issued to applicants who have had a site licence revoked within three years of the current application.
