Enhanced DBS checks
All Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers need a current Enhanced DBS Check to hold a licence.
To make things faster and easier, we are using TaxiPlus to do this. They will take your payment and arrange the DBS check.
If you are not signed up to the DBS Update Service
You must apply for your DBS check, visit: TaxiPlus.
- Select the "Taxi Drivers" link in the menu.
- Then search for “Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council” where it says “Search for your local council here…”.
- The website instructions will guide you through the process. This will include, how to verify your identity.
They will keep you and us updated on the progress. This will reduce delays in issuing your badges.
Taxi policy change from 1st January 2025
- All vehicles must have a valid DVSA MOT certificate with no outstanding manufacturer recalls.
- Factory fitted retractable window blinds are permitted in rear passenger windows.
- Vehicles do not need to carry a fire extinguisher. In the event of a fire, we advise you to get yourself and any passengers out of the vehicle. You should then call 999.
- Council approved “ADVANCED BOOKINGS ONLY” door signs to be displayed on all vehicles. Also, display the Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council crest that includes the vehicle licence number. The sign must be affixed to the vehicle either permanently or by means of a magnetic backing plate.
- Private Hire Operator details must be displayed. This includes the name and either the phone number, app or web address.
- All vehicles, should they fail the compliance test, will only have two retests. After that, our Transport Service will provide a technical report. A Senior Licensing Officer will use this to decide if the vehicle should be refused or revoked.
- All accidents to be reported to the council as soon as reasonably practicable. In many cases, within 72 hours of the occurrence of any accident.
- If a vehicle is written off, we must be informed by the insurance company.
- All vehicles must match the colour stated on the logbook and not wrapped.
- The insurance certificate produced must show cover for a private hire use to have public liability insurance cover of £2 million.
- All taxi and private hire vehicle plates will be replaced by bumper stickers. Each driver will receive a paper licence and a card that must be displayed in the window.
Replacement fees
- Bumper stickers is £10.
- Paper licence is £10.50.
- Vehicle card is £5.
- Plastic wallet is £5.
