Equality and diversity staff networks

Find information about groups that support race equality, LGBT and disabled staff.

Staff Race Equality Network

It is important that we have a Staff Race Equality Network.

  • It provides a safe environment in which colleagues can share their lived experiences;
  • and determine appropriate courses of action for:
    • the network;
    • the Council;
    • and partner agencies to take to address the inequalities we face.

To find out how it works and its links to other staff groups, read:

We have:

  • A steering group that meets every Thursday at 2pm on Microsoft Teams.
  • An informal Wednesday lunchtime meeting on Zoom between 12pm - 1pm.
  • Monthly Network meetings.

We encourage BAME colleagues and Allies to be solution focussed and welcome all to these meetings. If you wish to attend any meetings or would like to put forward ideas or comments please email: Staffraceequality@calderdale.gov.uk.

LGBT Staff Network

Our main aim is to promote equality, inclusion and representation of LGBT people in employment and service delivery. Also, to help the organisation achieve the Council's ambition. We work to make sure the views of LGBT service users and employees are taken into account.

Membership is open to all Lesbians, Gay men/women, Bi and Trans people who work for the council.

  • We offer support for LGBT employees.
  • We promote understanding of LGBT issues.
  • We contribute and facilitate consultation with LGBT employees.
  • We contribute to the development and delivery of council policies and initiatives.

Staff Disability Forum

The group meets once a month and keeps in touch using Microsoft Teams' chat. It is open to all our staff who consider they have a disability, cognitive difference or long-term health/medical condition. Also, any members of staff who have a specific interest in this area of work.

  • We share ideas and support each other.
  • We contribute and facilitate consultation with disabled colleagues and the wider workforce.
  • We connect with other staff networks and work with them to bring about positive change.
