Overview

This 'In short' version is intended to be a quick read of our VCSE Strategy:
Why develop a VCSE strategy?
The Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Calderdale is made up of over 1,500 organisations. The sector is diverse and made up of organisations of all shapes, cultures and sizes.
VCSE organisations in Calderdale mainly employ Calderdale residents and spend a high percentage of their money in Calderdale. The VCSE in Calderdale contributes almost £550m to the local economy.
These organisations have:
- 5,151 employees – this makes up 5.6% of the local workforce (based on 91,500 jobs in Calderdale)
- Over 13,500 volunteers.
We’ve developed this strategy to highlight and support the vital role VCSE organisations play in Calderdale. The sector is:
- Strong and trusted and has long-lasting relationships.
- Recognised and valued.
- Highly responsive, agile, creative, and innovative.
- Knowledgeable, professional and skills.
- Vital to the local support system.
This strategy follows a recommendation from the Measuring the value of the VCS in Calderdale report. The Local Government Association’s 2023 Peer Review supported the Council’s commitment to working in partnership with the VCSE sector.
Together, the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector, Health partners and Calderdale Council co-produced this strategy. The strategy sets out how we aim to ensure a flourishing, sustainable VCSE sector in Calderdale.
This work supports our Vision 2024 and future ambitions.
