In September 2025, the Government confirmed Mixenden as a Pride in Place neighbourhood. Some parts of Illingworth are also covered in this.
This is a chance to build on the area's strong community spirit, local organisations and resident leadership. It aims to tackle long-standing challenges and help create a place people are proud to call home.
This investment supports our Vision 2034. This is Calderdale's shared, long-term ambition over the next 10 years to make Calderdale a better place for everyone.
What this means
Mixenden, Illingworth and North Halifax have:
- a strong history of community action;
- active local organisations;
- and residents who care deeply about their area.
Pride in Place is designed to support and strengthen what already exists, not replace it. It builds on:
- work already happening in North Halifax through community organisations;
- and investment by Calderdale Council and the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
It strengthens the community-led approach set out in the North Halifax Strategy. Also, it provides a major long-term funding to help deliver its priorities.
What it offers
- Long-term certainty.
- Decisions made locally.
- Investment shaped by lived experience alongside professional expertise.
The funding
- £20 million over the 10 years.
- A mix of revenue and capital. Flexible, to allow priorities to change over time.
Timeline
- Years 1 to 2: The focus will be on engagement, governance and building local capacity.
- Years 3 to 5: Investment will increase as priorities and delivery approaches are agreed.
- Later years: Later years will support larger-scale, longer-term change.
The principles of the programme are:
- Community-Led: Local people shape priorities, influence decisions and help decide how funding is used.
- Long-Term and Place-Based: A 10-year commitment that allows time to build trust, confidence and lasting change.
- Flexible and Locally Responsive: There is no fixed list of projects. Investment reflects what matters most locally and can change over time as priorities evolve.
- Strengths-Based: The programme builds on existing assets:
- local people;
- organisations;
- networks;
- and community spirit.
- Inclusive and Fair: Everyone should have the chance to be involved and benefit. We will work hard to include people whose voices are not always heard, with clear, open and fair decisions made.
- Collaborative: Partners work together around shared goals, supporting community leadership.
Get involved and help shape the future of your neighbourhood.

- Works with residents to agree local priorities.
- Acts as stewards of the long-term vision for the neighbourhood.

- create a Plan;
- and they will be responsible for community-led decisions about the funding and priorities.
There will be transparent decisions made that are clearly accountable.
Who the Board will include

- Strong resident and community representation.
- VCSE organisations, statutory partners and other stakeholders.
