Influencing

Climate action and climate resilience work require change – locally, regionally, and nationally.  The influencing strand of our work needs to be seen and owned by everybody to succeed. Our voices and actions are always stronger together.

  • In 2024, we published ‘Influencing Change: A Strategy for Climate Advocacy in Calderdale’. UK100 assisted us with this plan. We are now using this approach as a model to help others make an impact.
  • We have launched a climate dashboard. Hosted by Calderdale Council, the climate dashboard lets people see progress against goals with clear data sets and visuals.
  • Over 600 people have already subscribed to our local climate newsletter. This is great, but we’d like many more! Our newsletter is your go-to source for updates on local projects and new funding.
  • We keep looking for project funding. Government funds, charitable funding and business investment are all needed. We have had many successes, but the money available doesn’t always match our needs and aims.

How we are doing

Our priorities for the next year

Deliver our Influencing Strategy, taking local asks to regional government and MPs. Grow our networks with green investors. Keep sharing our climate action stories. Work with new partners and engage people from all walks of life.

Case study – From Insight to Action event

In November, over 200 people gathered to hear about local solutions to net zero. We discussed our Influencing Strategy, net zero plans, and shared findings from the Calderdale Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP).

The LAEP forecasts that Calderdale’s move to net zero will mean an investment of £2 billion. It will support 3,000 jobs and deliver social benefits (for example, warmer homes and cleaner air). Good evidence helps us to engage people and find solutions.
