Temporary accommodation

If we need to give you a temporary place to stay, only one offer will be made.

This can be:

  • a self-contained flat;
  • a place in a hostel with some shared facilities;
  • bed and breakfast.

If you do not think the offer is suitable, you can ask for a review.

If you refuse the offer, we will have no further duty to you as a homeless person.

If we have:

  • a duty to give you a temporary place to live;
  • and you later get Band 1 priority for the allocation scheme;
  • this will be for a limited time and you will only get one offer of a permanent home.

This can be through the B-with-us scheme or from a Housing Association.

We may also secure an offer of an affordable privately rented tenancy for you.

Young People may be offered a nomination to a Supported Lodgings scheme.

Please note: If you refuse a reasonable offer:

  • We will no longer have a duty to you as a homeless person.
  • Band 1 priority will be removed from your B-with-us membership.
  • You must leave any temporary accommodation.

Paying for temporary accommodation

You will need to pay this.

  • How much you pay will depend on where you are staying.
  • If you can claim housing allowance, this will help you to pay the rent.
  • Housing support staff can help you complete a housing benefit form:

Your furniture and temporary accommodation

  • If you are likely to be offered temporary accommodation, try to find somewhere to store your belongings.
  • If you cannot find anywhere, we can arrange storage for you.

Please note: There is a charge for this that you must pay, in full. We can arrange with you how much needs to be paid each week.
