Business and voluntary groups

We offer a variety of volunteering days or team building days for business and voluntary groups

Whether it is team building or just to put something back in the local community, we can offer a variety of volunteering days or team building days for business and voluntary groups. Examples include anything from redecoration at a local museum to maintaining paths with our Countryside team.

You can find out more about what it is like to volunteer as a business group by visiting our volunteering case studies page or by taking a look at our frequently asked questions below.

To apply for the roles, please express your interest:

Available activities

We have group volunteering activities available across the Calderdale area with a wide range of indoor and outdoor opportunities.

As you’d imagine, the activities available vary with the seasons and are organised to have the biggest impact for our service users.

Examples of some recent activities include decorating at Lower Edge Day Centre in Rastrick and gardening at Higgins Close Day Centre in Halifax.

We can offer groups one day volunteering activities which may be of more interest to business groups or ongoing, locally focussed, projects which might appeal to voluntary groups.

Mobility or health needs

Each volunteering activity is arranged to suit your group we’ll always endeavour to meet the needs of everyone taking part, including people with mobility or health needs.

Large groups

Some of our services will be able to accommodate groups of up to 50 volunteers though it may take a little longer than normal to put arrangements in place for these very large groups.

Skills based volunteering

If you or your group have specific skills you’d like to share through your volunteering please do let us know.

It might be IT, finance or something else entirely but if you’ve built strong skills in the workplace that you’d like to share through volunteering, we’d be keen to work with you to make the most of them.

Equipment and costs

The volunteer supervisor will discuss this with you as the equipment needed will vary according to the activity. For some activities we may ask for a contribution towards the costs of materials we need to buy.

Supervision

Groups undertaking one day volunteering projects will always be met on site and supervised by a member of Calderdale Council staff for the duration of the activity.

Groups who volunteer regularly at the same site (for example a Friends of a park group) may not always be supervised by a member of Calderdale Council staff, although they will always be contactable.

Insurance

Business groups and well established, constituted voluntary groups will need to provide their own insurance for their volunteering activity. However, developing voluntary groups are able to apply to the Calderdale Council Small Grants scheme for the costs of their first years insurance.
