What the Gateway Youth Club is
We are a busy youth club which is enjoyed by more than 20 young people with additional needs each session.
It gives young people the chance to socialise, learn from each other and develop.
We have a brilliant team of keen and hardworking volunteers who support the youth club.
We offer a range of opportunities and activities for the young people, such as:
- arts and crafts;
- music;
- drama;
- games;
- and sports.
The role
We seek to recruit adult volunteers who can offer a regular commitment of 1-2 evenings per month.
Our sessions are fortnightly on Mondays, from 6-8pm during term time.
In this role you will support the group with a range of tasks, such as:
- Set activities ready for the young people to arrive.
- Encourage and support young people to take part in activities.
- Take the register and collect subs.
- Prepare refreshments.
- Facilitate the tuck shop.
- Develop independence skills by supervising young people to get involved in some everyday tasks themselves.
- Support the young people to have their voice heard.
- Model sensible, respectful and inclusive behaviour.
- Get involved and demonstrate participation and teamwork.
Skills
- Do you get on well with young people?
- Do you have a responsible and reliable attitude?
- Are you able to give help and support to vulnerable people?
- Are you flexible, patient and a good communicator?
- Are you confident mixing with a diverse range of people both 1:1 and in groups?
- Are you passionate about inclusion and breaking down barriers?
Other
- Willing to undergo the necessary recruitment and training programme.
- Willing to undertake a DBS check.
- Aged 18 years or older.
