These are are a key resource for any genealogist. They are useful for when you research family members who were born, married or that died before 1837. This is when the index of births, deaths and marriages began.
The registers cover Calderdale and parts of West and south Yorkshire. They can be accessed in various formats:
- Online: For most parish registers of the west riding see: Ancestry (library edition). This can be used free of charge at any of our libraries.
- Microfilm: A full collection is held by the West Yorkshire Archive Service, Calderdale.
- This is next to Local Studies in Central Library (Halifax). For open times, visit: Calderdale Archive Service Opening Times and Information.
- They can also be viewed in Local Studies when the archive is closed.
