
There are several outdoor gyms in parks and open spaces around Calderdale.
The equipment is low impact and includes a variety of exercises that anyone can try. Instructions on how to use outdoor gym equipment are attached to them.
Note: Remember to stretch before and after exercising and follow the instructions for use which are on the equipment.
Beech Road Rec, Recreation Road, Sowerby Bridge
Equipment can be found around the recreation area and includes:
- Cross trainer;
- leg press;
- seated row;
- sit up station.
Beechwood Park, Beechwood Avenue, Holmfield
The gym is near the football pitches and BMX track. There is a trim trail section and two outdoor gym stations which include:
- Tri-fitness;
- step up;
- pull up;
- sit up stations.
Boxhall Recreation Ground
A fitness zone is in the recreation ground.
Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge
The gym is near the Cafe. It has:
- Seated cycles (two types);
- hand cycle;
- leg press;
- multi-use steps;
- chest press;
- abdominal bench.
The park also has distance plates along the path around the football field. This is to help walkers and joggers measure their workout distances. A sign is in place near the gym with a map and directions.
Calder Holmes Park
The equipment can be found in the park and includes:
- Chest press;
- hand bike;
- seated row;
- step up station.
Centre Vale Park
The gym is near the mini-bike cycle-way and bowling greens in Centre Vale Park.
It has mini and standard items, which are suitable for adults and children.
There is a fitness zone that offers more equipment to challenge users, which includes:
- Adult fitness;
- cross trainer;
- cycle;
- oblique;
- pull up station.
Copley Recreation Ground, Wakefield Road

The gym is within the play area next to Copley Primary School. It s a tri-fitness station.
Crow Wood Park
The gym is near the main gates and entrance. It has a large variety of equipment. It has:
- An abdominal;
- oblique;
- leg press;
- shoulder flex;
- bike;
- tri-fitness stations.
Hebble Trail
The gym stations are located within this popular walking, cycling and running route which is near to the Hebble Brook. It has:
- A dip;
- leg stretch;
- pull-up;
- sit-up;
- tai-chi wheels;
- waist trainer.
Hullen Edge Recreation Ground, Elland
The gym is near the football fields and skate park. It has a tri-fitness station.
Manor Heath Park, Halifax
The gym is near Flutterbites Café, behind the play area. It has:
- A dip;
- lateral pull down;
- leg stretch;
- pull up;
- sit-up;
- tai-chi wheels;
- chest press stations.
New Bond Street, Halifax
The gym is next to a small play area. It has:
- A cross trainer;
- ski cross trainer;
- and a double lateral pull down.
Northowram Recreation Ground
The gym is next to the tennis courts. It has:
- A shoulder press;
- exercise bike;
- skier;
- cross trainer;
- seated cycle.
Ripponden Wood Recreation Ground

The gym is on the grass area, opposite the play area. It has:
- A cross trainer;
- hand cycle;
- double-seated rower;
- double shoulder press.
Saville Park
The equipment is located near the school and includes:
- Dip station;
- press up station.
Shelf Hall Park
The equipment is located at the far end of the park near the car park and includes:
- Dip station;
- press up station.
Stainland Recreation Ground
The gym is located near the toddler play area within the rec and includes:
- Press up station;
- activity station.
Threeways Centre, Ovenden
Next door to the Threeways Centre and gym. It has:
- Cross trainer;
- hand bike;
- recumbent bike;
- ski machine;
- fitness bike;
- bench.
Wellholme Park, Brighouse
The gym is near Thornhill Beck picnic area. It has:
- A seated cycle;
- hand cycle;
- double chest press;
- bench press;
- double shoulder press.
Woodhouse Lane Recreation Ground, Raistrick
Near the play area, it has a multi-purpose fitness frame in the recreation ground.

Safer Cleaner Greener worked with local community groups and NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) to install these outdoor gyms. Some funding was from the PCT to help improve outdoor spaces for the benefit of Calderdale residents.
