Shibden Park

Shibden Estate is one of West Yorkshire's most important heritage sites. It is a jewel in the crown of Calderdale's cultural resources.

Important note: Dog Control Orders are in force in all our parks.
Shibden parkland

Explore Shibden's beautifully restored grounds. These were commissioned by Anne Lister and influenced by the picturesque landscape movement of the early 19th century.

  • Experience the peacefulness of the Wilderness Garden, cascade and pools. Also, Cunnery Wood, the site of the old kitchen garden.
  • Visit the fruit garden with its collection of heritage fruit trees. These were planted to reflect what has grown at Shibden over 200 years ago.
  • The Mere was designed to resemble a large river flowing through the Shibden valley. It has rowing boats, an island and many wild birds.
  • There is the permanent and unique exhibit that shows off the skills of the Master Craftsman dry stone waller. For more about this, please see: Dry stone walling exhibit.

  • The hall is accessible on the ground floor.
  • There are steps at the main front entrance.
  • There is a bell on the approach to the hall so staff can provide level access.
