Explore Shibden's beautifully restored grounds. These were commissioned by Anne Lister and influenced by the picturesque landscape movement of the early 19th century.
- Experience the peacefulness of the Wilderness Garden, cascade and pools. Also, Cunnery Wood, the site of the old kitchen garden.
- Visit the fruit garden with its collection of heritage fruit trees. These were planted to reflect what has grown at Shibden over 200 years ago.
- The Mere was designed to resemble a large river flowing through the Shibden valley. It has rowing boats, an island and many wild birds.

Where it is
- Address: Godley Lane, Halifax. HX3 6XG.
The estate is on the A58 Leeds/Bradford Road (Godley Lane), east of Halifax town centre. It is about a 20 minute walk (uphill) from the bus station and 25 minutes from the train station. It is also a 20 minute car ride from the M62 motorway (junction 26).
You can get there by bus from Halifax, Bradford, Brighouse, Huddersfield and Leeds stations. For more about the buses and trains, visit: West Yorkshire Metro.
Car parks
There are plenty of spaces.
- The main car park (Mereside) is accessed off Godley Lane. Enter the park gates and follow the road down to the bottom of the park.
- After you enter the gates, you will notice a smaller car park on the left.
- Shibden Hall Upper car park is accessed off Shibden Hall Road.
- Enter the upper car park and follow the road down to the museum car park. (Please note: Reserved for Permit/Blue Badge Holders.)

- It is free to park.
Pay and Display
Charges apply form:
- April to October between 9am and 6pm.
- November to March between 9am and 5pm.
Note: There is no charge on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Access
We have tried to make the estate as accessible as we can. All facilities meet this need, but some terrain is steep or uneven and not suitable for wheelchairs.
- The hall is accessible on the ground floor.
- There are steps at the main front entrance.
- There is a bell on the approach to the hall so staff can provide level access.
