Our EMS is a procedure for managing the organisation’s environmental impact. It covers compliance with legislation and the prevention of pollution. It also seeks to continually improve our environmental performance.
It is made up of:
- The Environmental Policy (see our policy statement below).
- Registers of significant environmental aspects and impacts.
- A programme of environmental actions.
- Regular environmental audits.
- Carbon footprint assessment.
- An annual report on our environmental performance.

Scope of the EMS
It operates:
- Across our core activities, which includes waste, energy, water and transport management.
- Within the Regeneration and Strategy, Resources and Transformation, Chief Executive, and Public Services directorates.

This standard recognises organisations that are committed to quality environmental management which goes beyond the minimum required by law. Our EMS is certified by Interface NRM.
