Termination policy for Council managed sites

Allotment plots must be cultivated in accordance with allotment agreements and any guidelines which are issued.

Allotments are inspected two or three times a year by independent assessors. If a plot does not meet the required cultivation standard then the tenant will be informed of the inspection report.

  • They are given the chance to declare any mitigating circumstances (which will be treated in confidence).
  • Deadlines for rectification will be given. These will allow reasonable time for the tenant to take action, bearing in mind the time of year.
  • Where appropriate, a plot plan showing the tenant's intentions for the coming year will be requested. However, tenants must reply within the required timescales.

If on a subsequent inspection the plot still does not meet the required cultivation standard or the agreed improvement plan and there are no mitigating circumstances, then the tenancy will be terminated.

A tenant may appeal against termination by contacting the Assistant Director Neighbourhoods, Calderdale Council, Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax HX1 1UJ.
