A family approach

We have adapted our service for families after reviewing the feedback we receive from families, and reflecting on our own practice.

Instead of a 10 week programme, we offer a targeted and bespoke approach. We work on an individual basis with families, and help them to identify their own goals and aspirations in terms of their health and general wellbeing. Each family is allocated a Better Living trainer who will work with them and support them to make sustainable lifestyle changes. We hope that this more focused approach will better serve the family health needs.

If you have one or more families within your school community who you feel could benefit from our free service, please contact us to make a referral. For more details on this service, see:

Specialist Inclusion Service and Sports Services

We offer

Our Disability Sports Development Officer works in both the Specialist inclusion service (SIS) and Sports services (SS), coordinating and delivering specific programmes to promote the inclusion and integration of disabled young people in curriculum and 'out of school' PE and sport sessions.

Targeted work and consultation is carried out, in partnership with school PE staff, to give us an accurate picture of the barriers faced, and the appropriate methods required, to establish the inclusion and development of disabled children and young people in sport. PE guidance is produced in various formats for school colleagues promoting an inclusive approach to physical activity and as a pathway towards inclusion in the community.

The programme includes:

  • flexible arrangements to suit individual schools;
  • practical solutions and activities to address your inclusive PE and sport issues;
  • specialist sports coach support in curriculum and 'after school' sessions;
  • disability sport resources and examples of good practice;
  • monitoring and evaluation of agreed aims and actions;
  • advice and support on local and regional school competitions and events;
  • advice and support on inclusive opportunities in mainstream sports groups and clubs;

  • "CSLA was fun and very informative covering everything and any situation you can possibly be put in and adapting the situation, covering different situations you can be and how to adapt those"
  • "I liked working as a team, learning new skills, doing inclusion skills. Also being able to encourage people to participate and given encouragement after delivery by the rest of the team"

Run Leaders course participants

  • "It was a very varied course, so you learnt things across a wide range of subjects and you also learnt a lot about non-traditional sports like goal ball and boccia. Learning about adaptive games with little or no equipment was important. Both course tutors were helpful and friendly!"

  • "Information provided on course very helpful. Good start up kit provided and support available"
