Privacy Notice - How we use your information
Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council of Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax, HX1 1UJ is registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) under the provision of the Data Protection Act 2018. The Council takes its responsibilities as Data Controller under the Act very seriously.
This privacy notice explains how your personal information will be processed if you choose to complete one of the Council’s online surveys using our Engage online consultation portal.
The type of information we will collect
We will collect the following personal information:
- Name
- Email address
- Your preferences about consultation topics
Why we collect and hold this information
The information provided by you is used so that we can notify you of relevant consultations carried out by the Council and for us to collect statistical information for reporting purposes.
Sharing your personal data
Your personal information will not be shared with any other external organisations. We will never share your information with third parties without your consent unless the law allows us to do so.
The lawful basis for processing your data
Article 6(1)(a) – your consent to process the information for the purposes stated.
Retaining your personal information
Your contact details are recorded electronically on our system to maintain up to date records. The information you have provided will be kept for a maximum of 24 months from the date of your registration request. You will then be contacted to re-register if you wish to do so. If you do not re-register, we will delete your data from our systems. If you wish to be removed from our database at any time, you can do so by email at: consultations@calderdale.gov.uk
Your rights
The GDPR provides the following rights for individuals. Not all rights are absolute and therefore will only apply in certain circumstances:

- The right of access
- The right to rectification
- The right to erasure
- The right to restrict processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to object
- Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling.
You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Officer if you feel that your data has not been handled in accordance with the law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office at www.ico.org.uk
