Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council of Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax, HX1 1UJ is registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) under the provision of the Data Protection Act 2018. The Council takes its responsibilities as Data Controller under the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR very seriously.
This privacy notice explains how your personal information will be processed by Calderdale Council in respect of any guidance or support provided to you by its Early Advice and Support Team (EAST).
The type of information we will collect
We collect the following types of information directly from you:
- Name, address, and contact details
- Household details
- Financial details such as income and outgoings, benefits details, and a statement of need if applicable
- Any relevant details of your personal circumstances (which may include health information, disabilities, housing status, types of support required and claims you may be entitled to make to assist you financially).
Why we collect and hold this information
Your personal information is required for the purpose of providing you with the support you request. This is being offered in order to meet a Council priority in terms of reducing inequalities and tackling the cost-of-living crisis. Your data is used:
- To assess the support and guidance you require and the financial help you may be entitled to
- To act as money guidance practitioners in line with the Money Guiders programme (run by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) and commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP))
- To administer the voucher system
- To signpost you to appropriate help from other council services such as Council Tax and Benefits, and from other providers such as foodbanks, Noah’s Ark, and Locala health visitors
- To provide you with ongoing support and contact you with relevant communications
- To help us assess the effectiveness of the programme and to plan and improve future services.
Sharing your personal data
Your information may be shared, with your consent, with the following services/organisations as appropriate:
- Calderdale Council’s Council Tax and Benefits services
- Noah’s Ark
- Locala health visiting team (if help is requested in connection with the Emergency Infant Formula Pathway)
- Other organisations such as charities and contracted providers providing help and support, if applicable
We will only ever share relevant information about you with third parties where there is a legal basis for us to do so.
The lawful basis for the processing your data
We process personal information and special category data under the following GDPR lawful basis:
- Article 6(1)(a) – your clear consent has given to process your personal data for a specific purpose
- Article 9(2)(a) – your explicit consent for the processing of any special category data
Retaining your personal information
Your personal information will be kept for a maximum period of 12 months from the final date of contact with the service and will then be securely destroyed.
Consent
If we rely upon consent to use your personal data, you have the right to remove it at any time. If you no longer wish to receive help and to withdraw your consent for the processing of your data for this purpose, please contact us at the following email address: EAST@calderdale.gov.uk
Your rights
The GDPR provides the following rights for individuals. Not all rights are absolute and therefore will only apply in certain circumstances:
- The right to be informed
- The right of access
- The right to rectification
- The right to erasure
- The right to restrict processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to object
- Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling.
