How we use your information
Calderdale Council of Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax, HX1 1UJ is registered with the information Commissioners Office (ICO) under the provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018. The Council takes its responsibilities under the Act very seriously.
This notice explains how Calderdale Council (as Data Controller) will use your personal data in order to process and assess your entitlement to the Council Tax energy rebate.
What personal information is being processed?
The following personal information may be provided by you when completing your application:
- Name
- Home Address
- Email Address
- Telephone Number
- Bank Details
- Details of tax registration
- Date of Birth
The purpose of processing
We collect your personal information for the following purpose(s):
- To assess whether you are eligible to receive a Council Tax energy rebate payment.
- To update your Council Tax account.
Legal basis for processing your personal data
The processing of your personal information is necessary as follows:
- GDPR Article 6(1)(e) – For the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller
Sharing your personal data
We may use the information you have provided for the prevention and detection of fraud. We may also share this information with other bodies responsible for public funds or for auditing them for these purposes.

We will never share your information with third parties unless the law allows us to do so.
How long we keep your personal data
- Successful applications and supporting information (including assessments and personal information) will be retained for 7 years from the date of the payment transaction being made.
- Unsuccessful, withdrawn, or ineligible applications and supporting information will be retained for 6 years from the date of closure for applications.
Your rights
The GDPR provides the following rights for individuals. Not all rights are absolute and therefore will only apply in certain circumstances:

- The right to restrict processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to object
