How we will use and store information
Calderdale Council Calderdale Council is registered with the information Commissioners Office (ICO) under the provisions of the Data Protection Act May 2018. The Council takes its responsibilities under the Act very seriously. The Health and Social Care Act 2012 has given local authorities the power to perform public health functions. As such the Council has “a duty to improve the health of the people and responsibility for commissioning appropriate public health services” and the statutory responsibilities for public health services as clearly set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
The information provided by you is collected purely for the purposes of assessing your Health and Social Care needs to enable us to provide you with appropriate support, advice, information and assistance as requested. We may need to collect information about your health, circumstances, personal details, contact details and how you would like to be supported.
How we will share your information
Sharing your information with us constitutes explicit consent from you for us to process your data for this purpose. We may share some of the information you have given us with other Council departments, service providers and statutory bodies where required to do so by law. The information we hold may be shared with health services where there would be a benefit to you or in order to promote your personal health and wellbeing. It may also be shared with health services to be used in an anonymised way to help improve the planning of health and social care services generally.
How to access your information
The council makes every effort to keep all the personal data it holds secure, whether held electronically or as paper copies. The council has security procedures and an Information Security Policy to ensure we handle data appropriately and protect it from accidental loss or misuse. We also ensure that only members of staff with a legitimate reason to access your information have permission to do so.
In addition you have the right to see what information is held about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to have information removed from our system unless we are required by law or a statutory purpose to keep it. You have the right to complain to the Data Protection Officer if you feel that your data has not been handled in accordance with the law. Your information will only be kept for a period of 8 years after the service ends after which it will be securely destroyed in line with the council’s record retention policies.
