Calderdale Council of Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax, HX1 1UJ is registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) under the provision of the Data Protection Act 2018. The Council takes its responsibilities as Data Controller of your information under the Act very seriously.
The type of personal information we collect
Directly from you:
- Name.
- Address.
- Phone number.
- Email address.
We may also collect information that is in the public domain, such as from your business website/social media.
Why we collect and hold this information
- To provide your business with an entry on the Visit Calderdale website. Also, to add your business to our Tourism Database of local visitor economy businesses, if requested.
- To include you on the Visit Calderdale and other relevant mailing lists. Also for invitations to any events that we feel are suitable and/or of interest to you.
- To enable us to coordinate on the ground support and activity across Calderdale with local businesses and communities. This covers:
- business engagement for public health and COVID-19 awareness;
- advocate the digital and skills activity;
- identify ways to create a cleaner greener environment;
- support with the visitor offer;
- and collate business intelligence.
Sharing your personal data
Your personal information will not be shared with any external organisations unless you have explicitly consented to it.
We will never share your information with third parties without your consent unless the law allows us to do so.
The lawful basis for processing your data
- Article 6(1)(a). The data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data.
- Article 6(1)(e). Processing is necessary for:
- the performance of a task carried out in the public interest;
- or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
How long we will keep your personal information
- For a maximum of 5 years;
- until such time as the data is reviewed by us and removed because your business has ceased trading
- or it is removed at your request.
Your data protection rights
You have the right to:
- ask for copies of what information is held about you.
- ask us to rectify information you think is inaccurate.
- request the restriction of processing of your information.
- ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
There is no fee for any of the above.

How to complain
If you feel that your data has not been handled in accordance with the law, you have the right to complain to our Data Protection Officer. You can contact the Council’s Data Protection Officer at information.management@calderdale.gov.uk.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office.
