The Council takes its responsibilities as Data Controller under the Data Protection Act and UK GDPR very seriously.
This privacy notice explains how your personal information will be processed for the purpose of running the Capturing Calderdale Photography Competition and the marketing of Calderdale’s Vision 34 campaign.
Information we will collect
- Name.
- Contact details (email address, phone number, postal address).
- Organisation.
- Photographs supplied by you.
Why we collect and hold this information
- We need to collect this information to retain a record of your contact details (name, organisation, telephone number and email address), so we can contact you if you’re a winner.
- We will also use this information to confirm you have accepted the terms and conditions of the competition. This includes but is not limited to the identifiable third-party information in the photograph we receive from you.
- To promote the winner and runner-up of the competition publicly. We will only share your submitted photography, name and organisation, not your contact information.
Sharing your personal data
The name, organisation and winning entries will be shared publicly via the We Are Calderdale event and online media.
We only share relevant information about you with third parties where there is a legal basis to do so.
The lawful basis for the processing your data
- Article 6(1)(a) - The individual has given clear consent for the council to process their personal data for a specific purpose.
You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting socialmedia@calderdale.gov.uk
How long we will keep your personal information
Your personal data will be kept for 10 years after the competition has closed. This is so we can use the images you have submitted to promote Vision 34 for its duration. It will then be securely destroyed.

Not all rights are absolute and may only apply in certain circumstances.
