What we can do for you

We know it is important to get things right when planning a Capital Project in your school. We have a dedicated service that can support you:

  • Throughout the year, we will distribute capital allocations to schools in line with the Department for Education (DfE) and local needs. Capital priorities are set out in the Statement of Priorities (StOP) and a three year capital programme. These are reviewed annually.
  • We will act as the client for major school building schemes and will work in partnership with schools, Principal Contractor and consultants.
  • Calderdale Council acts on behalf of the DfE to agree a capital programme for the distribution of Local education authority Coordinated Voluntary Aided Programme (LCVAP) funding to Voluntary Aided schools. The priorities for this funding stream are discussed and agreed in partnership with the Diocesan Boards of Leeds. The Council will arrange Capital bidding rounds where these are required.
  • In the case of schools' Devolved Formula Capital (DFC) allocations, we will provide Community, Community Special, Foundation and Voluntary Controlled schools with an annual statement setting out the funding position. This may be updated periodically following DfE notification of changes in the allocation available. Voluntary Aided schools will be notified of their DFC allocations directly by the DfE. Where appropriate, we will prepare Capital Project reports to Cabinet and Project Appraisal reports for consideration by the Council's Finance Team on behalf of schools. Where it is agreed that schools manage their own projects funded by their DFC allocation, we will provide guidance setting out the procedures to be followed to meet the Council's Procurement Rules and financial requirements.

Pricing

  • No charge: For Community and Voluntary Controlled schools, this is funded from the Dedicated Schools Grant.
  • Charged: For Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools there will be a charge, which will be agreed in advance of any works undertaken.
