Environmental education

Here you can find out about environmental education in Calderdale.

Why not bring your class on a visit to one of our beautiful countryside sites?

Our locations have much to offer to aid you to delivery the National Curriculum across a range of subjects. These include:

  • Science;
  • Geography;
  • Citizenship;
  • Art.

Two members of the Countryside team will work with your class and provide all materials used during the workshop. All sessions are fully risk assessed and teachers are welcome to arrange a pre-visit to any site.

Julie Swift:

Gardening/wildlife clubs and teacher training

We can offer assistance to set up gardening and/or wildlife clubs to enhance your children's learning. We can:

  • run the sessions for you;
  • or help you develop a programme of activities and staff training for school staff/volunteers to run the sessions yourselves.

The clubs can be held at lunchtime or after school.

We can also provide training to help you make the most of your school grounds. This can cover topics such as:

  • how to develop and use the grounds as an outdoor classroom;
  • experience environmental education session techniques;
  • or advice and guidance on the use of raising beds within your school grounds.

Training can be paid for by the day or be incorporated into your Service level agreement.
