What we can do for you
We can provide and manage your school crossing patrol service. Calderdale Council acts as the Appropriate Authority under the Transport Act 2000 on behalf of schools to:
- Appoint patrols.
- Undertake the full recruitment and selection process including 'appropriateness' checks and medicals.
- Manage all ongoing Occupational Health assessments.
- Undertake sickness monitoring and manage personnel/disciplinary issues.
- Undertake the management and payment of salaries.
- Monitor operational activities.
- Perform a minimum of four site visits per annum and all necessary liaisons within the school.
- Perform site risk assessments on new sites and provide ongoing monitoring of existing sites.
- Provide all necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and other equipment. To make sure the School Crossing Patrol operative works within the legislative framework.
Providing the service from the one point within the authority means that economies of scale can be achieved:
- in the recruitment process;
- and purchase of PPE and other necessary equipment.
"This service is excellent and is invaluable in making sure that our pupils, parents, carers and families are safe."
You can find out more about Road safety on the Council website: Road safety.
Pricing
All requests for the provision of a school crossing patrol site will be assessed by the SXP Manager. This will take into account possible usage by pedestrians and volume of vehicles recorded.
Prior to a SXP sites creation, a discussion would need to take place with the school and Schools Forum. This would cover any possible:
- changes to the current highway layout in an engineering capacity;
- and costs involved.
For more details of costs, please contact the School Crossing patrol manager.
