If you are interested in volunteering with the Council, you can look through our volunteering opportunities.
For more details or to apply, please fill out our express of interest form. One of our officers will contact you with more details about the specific role.
Read through our Calderdale volunteering policy and handbook:
Training and support
Volunteers add great value to the work of the Council. We believe that you should get something from the experience.
We commit to managing volunteers in a way that makes sure this happens. So, you will:
- Have a supervisor who you can have regular access to if problems arise or when help and support is needed.
- Be given the training needed to do your tasks and the tools/equipment that you need also.
DBS check
You must have a DBS check if you are applying for a role with substantial and unsupervised access to:
- Children and young people under the age of 16;
- and vulnerable adults on a regular basis.
For more about this, visit: Disclosure and Barring Checks (GOV.UK).
Expenses
You will be advised of any expenses you can claim, before you begin your voluntary duties with us.
Volunteering and state benefits
If you get state benefits, you should contact your Job Centre Plus advisor before your start. This is to make sure that your payments will not be affected.
In most cases there are no issues with volunteering, but we advise you to discuss it with them first.
For more about this, visit: Volunteering while getting benefits (NIDirect).
