The Calderdale Education Welfare Service works with all schools.

What we look after:
- Advise on a range of attendance and welfare related issues to improve school attendance.
- Work with all schools in Calderdale offering recommendations for action on a range of issues impacting attendance.
- Support parents to improve their child’s attendance by offering advice and guidance to remove any barriers affecting regular school attendance.
- Encourage parents to discuss issues with the school in the first instance, in exceptional circumstances, the service will facilitate a meeting between school and parent liaising as appropriate in order to agree resolution of issues.
- Signpost support services including Calderdale Emotional Health and Wellbeing Services and the Early Help Pathway.
All schools have an allocated Education Welfare Officer, who works with the school staff to support dialogue that involves:
- parents.
- pupils.
- and other services.
This is to help pupils:
- Attend school regularly.
- Behave in line with the school’s behaviour for learning policy.
- Contribute in a positive and beneficial way to the school community.
- Achieve their academic potential and promote positive wellbeing.
