Our service
This service is provided by the Medical Needs Team.
What we can do for you
We aim to ensure children and young people who are too ill to attend school, get education via other means. This is by liaison with the academy or school, regarding the pupil's needs and progress.
Academies and schools can access this service free. (Except where a child, who has an Education health and care plan, receives medical needs teaching).
Our team fulfils the statutory duty of the Local Authority (section 19 of the 1996 Education Act) through:
- ensuring pupils with medical needs have access to continued education;
- delivering the minimum entitlement (five hours teaching per week) to pupils absent from school for fifteen days or more;
- supporting reintegration back into school for pupils who have previously been taught at home or at an alternative venue.
Pricing
- No charge: This service is funded by the Dedicated Schools Grant and other Local Authority funding.
- Charged: Schools and academies are charged when pupils with an Education health and care plan receive medical needs teaching. Training on 'health care planning' and 'administration of medicines' is negotiated at a cost of £75/hour per course tutor.
