BIDs are business-led partnerships created through a ballot process. They bring extra services to local businesses.
It can be a powerful tool for directly involving local businesses in activities. This allows the Council to work with the business community to improve local trading.
Calderdale Council is the collecting agent for BID levies, on behalf of the BID companies.
- You will get a bill each year in March.
- This is payable in one amount on 1st April for the extra services.
- If you occupy premises during the year, you must pay by the instalment date set on your bill.
Please note: This is in addition to your normal Business Rate Bill.

Halifax BID
Businesses of Halifax town centre voted 'yes' (November 2021) to a five year BID renewal.
This started on 1st April 2022 and will until 31st March 2027. For more details, please visit: Halifax BID.

Brighouse BID
1st April 2019 to 31st March 2024 (renewed from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2029).
The results of the Brighouse BID renewal ballot 2024-2029 were announced on 24th November 2023 - It is a 'Yes'!

The BID levy will be:
- A percentage of the 2023 rateable value (RV) of the business premises. For the renewal BID that starts on 1st April 2024:
- this will be the 2023 List RV shown on the rating list that applies on 31st March 2024;
- for properties with an RV of £2,000 or more.
- For the existing BID that operates for the levy years up to and including 2023/24 (ends 31st March 2024). This will be based on the 2017 List RV shown on the rating list that applies on 31at March 2019.
The charge is worked out as a daily charge. A bill is then issued for the whole year from 1st April to 31st March.

How to pay your Halifax or Brighouse BID Levy
BACS, phone/internet banking
Contact your bank to make arrangements to pay this way. Payments should be made to:
- National Westminster Bank PLC.
The account to be credited is 'Calderdale MBC, Head Office Collection Account'.
- Sort code: 62-21-45.
- Account Number: 00000000 (The bank account number should be formatted as 00000000 - eight zeros).
Note: Make sure your BID payment reference number is quoted in full with no spaces.
Online
Pay online (24-hours per day) with a debit or credit card.
Note: There is no surcharge if you pay by debit card.
For Halifax BID Levy payments
You will need to enter your account reference number. Please refer to your bill for reference details.
- Exclude the 60 as this is the fund code and not needed.
- The reference number to quote begins with four digits for the financial year, without any spaces. For example: 20239999999 (12 digits in total).
