What a CAT is
It is when the management and responsibility of a community assets is transferred to a community organisation. This could be a building or land that is owned by the Council.
Why assets are transferred
To enable longer-term benefit to our communities by local resources being into the hands of the community.

Who can apply
Local community-based organisations whose activities are wholly or mainly in Calderdale and who are properly constituted as:
- A Community Interest Company (CIC).
- A Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
- A Town/Parish Council or Community Council.
- A Co-operative.
How to apply
- Speak with your local Neighbourhood Team.
- To enquire about an asset, please email: Estate.Management@calderdale.gov.uk.
Things to consider before you apply
It is important that you understand the commitment and levels of responsibility involved. You would be responsible for managing the asset from the point of transfer, which includes:
- all repairs;
- ongoing maintenance;
- running costs;
- and insurance.
Please consider your group's capacity to manage this as part of your project development.
