  • 1130km of roads.
  • 1350km of bridleways and rights of ways.
  • 1093km footways.
  • 283 bridges and 111 rights of way bridges.
  • 30,860 street lights.
  • 730km walls.

We carry out inspections and surveys to assess the condition of our assets. This is to make sure that they are safe and to identify any maintenance work needed.

Transportation and Road Safety

This service is responsible for the development and implementation of our transportation and road safety policies.

This is in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and other West Yorkshire Authorities.

Highways and Structure Maintenance

  • We work closely with our colleagues in Planning to review developers' proposals. This is to make sure that they are safe and will create the minimum possible disruption.
  • Where applications involve modifications to the highway network, we make sure they are safe and fit for purpose.
  • We advise on construction methods, so the Council can adopt any highways resulting from development with a minimum of fuss.

Flood Risk Management

Corporate Lead - Flood Risk Management: Edward Norfolk

As the Lead Local Flood Authority, we are accountable for ensuring the effective management of local flood risks.

We are also responsible for assessing where the risk of flooding is significant and for developing the local flood risk management strategy.

We are a consultee for drainage issues on planning applications and provide drainage expertise to other services.
