Here you can find out how to access some of the event information that we hold for local papers in our archive.

The Local Newspapers and Events Index (1830s to 1950s)

This is partly an index to articles in local newspapers and partly an index to the dates of certain events.

The index comes from a set of notebooks written by employees of the Halifax Courier. We are grateful to them for their work, quite some years ago. Also, the small team of libraries volunteers who changed the contents of these notebooks to PDFs (2016-17).

The Central Library (Halifax) holds most of the newspapers referred to in the Index on microfilm.
