Course description
Explore your health and wellbeing through a combination of exercise, breathwork, and nutrition advice.
Good mental health isn’t about being happy all the time, it’s about being adaptable and overcoming the ups and downs that happen in life. This course will help you find your unique toolkit to become more resilient both inside and out, mentally and physically!
You will:
- Improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance as well as your mental fitness.
- Boost your energy levels and circulation.
- Improve your posture and reduce muscle and joint pain.
- Manage stress better though breathwork techniques and practical meditation exercises.
- Explore sleep hygiene and how you can improve the quality of your sleep.
- Learn about the microbiome and the importance of protein and fibre.
- Try some new healthy foods such as overnight oats or fermented products and pick up some easy health hacks to improve your health from the inside out.
- Reduce any feelings of loneliness and isolation by connecting with others in your community.

Next Step - The aim of these courses is to take your learning and confidence to the next stage. You will learn more about applying your skills further and delve deeper into the subject. For learners who have completed the First Step course.
Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who want to improve their mental or physical health and wellbeing, and learn how to live a happier lifestyle.
Zero expectation of initial fitness or flexibility required.
Next Step – Take your learning and confidence to the next stage. Delve deeper into the skills and techniques you explored in the First Step course, and make informed decisions about your own progression.
What do I need to bring?
- We have mats but if you prefer to bring your own please do so.
- Loose fitting or clothing in which you can be mobile.
- Blanket or towel for relaxation at end of class.
- An open mind to try things new.
You will use Google Classroom throughout your course to view work from your lessons, receive messages from your tutor, and access online resources. You can access this on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop/computer. Your tutor will support you to log-in during your first lesson, and the Learner Support team is always on hand to help with any issues.
