Course description
Explore your health and wellbeing through creative textile crafts. This course offers a calm, welcoming space where you can try techniques such as Shibori (Japanese-style tie dye), eco printing, natural dyeing, and slow stitching. These mindful, hands-on activities provide a safe space to experiment, take risks, and learn how to fix mistakes – helping to build resilience and adaptability. Good mental health isn’t about being happy all the time; it’s about managing life’s ups and downs.
You will:
- Improve dexterity, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination through practical tasks like slow stitching and eco printing.
- Reduce stress by focusing on calming, repetitive processes such as stitching or natural dyeing.
- Practice mindfulness by staying present in the moment during creative activities.
- Boost your self-esteem by turning your ideas into something tangible and meaningful, such as your own dyed or stitched piece.
- Reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation by connecting with others in a friendly, social environment.
- Develop creative problem-solving skills and build emotional resilience by learning from mistakes in a supportive space.

What do I need to bring?
You will use Google Classroom throughout your course to view work from your lessons, receive messages from your tutor, and access online resources. You can access this on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop/computer. Your tutor will support you to log-in during your first lesson, and the Learner Support team is always on hand to help with any issues.
