Further support in the Upper Calder Valley

Local flood groups

After the 2012 floods, groups were set up in Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd.

They are run by volunteers to:

  • Promote the interests of residents.
  • Raise awareness of flooding issues in the community.
  • Work on practical flood projects.

This includes, writing community flood plans and setting up local flood stores. Groups meet often and these are open to all the local community.

For more details and meetings dates, please email:

Flood wardens

Local people can volunteer to be "stand-by" flood wardens. These are the "eyes and ears" during a flood incident.

  • They help to make sure that flood warning messages reach local communities and are acted on;
  • and help in the flood aftermath.

If you want to volunteer, please email your local flood group using the contact details above.

River Stewardship

The Upper Calder Valley scheme lets local residents volunteer and do practical flood resilience and environmental enhancement in and around the waterways.

It runs practical activities to introduce the themes of river stewardship.

To volunteer, please email: calderfuture@gmail.com.
