Course description
This qualification of training is needed for many jobs in the food industry and helps to prepare people to work in catering or to support existing catering staff, with the necessary knowledge to work safely and confidently in the hospitality and catering industry.
The course covers a range of areas including:
- Importance of food safety procedures.
- Legal responsibilities of food handlers.
- Importance of personal hygiene.
- Keeping work areas and equipment clean.
- Importance of keeping food safe.
Tutors are knowledgeable in this sector and offer a learning experience that provides learners with a knowledge of basic food safety practices. There is lively debate, as learners share their own experiences, and offer first hand knowledge to the newcomers to the industry.
The assessment for the qualification is a multiple-choice online test set by NOCN consisting of 30 questions.
Course level
Level 2 - These qualifications are for learners who have a good knowledge and understanding of the subject, have previously gained a Level 1 qualification or gained some experience through work. Level 2 courses will test and challenge your abilities through a variety of tasks and learning. Useful for many job roles these qualifications can help to increase performance and confidence in the workplace.
Who is this course for?
Residents of Calderdale aged 19+ who are wishing to enter/already in employment in the Food Industry, preferably those having studied Level 1 but this is not essential. You need to have good English communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening and basic IT skills.

What do I need to bring?

- You must be able to access the web-based learning platform Google Classroom during the course. To do this you will need access to IT equipment such as a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet, and a stable internet connection.
