
- Clearly explain the purpose and benefits of network meetings, events, engagement, and partnership boards that involve VCSE organisations. Think about whether formal meetings with VCSE representatives are necessary, and how often and how long they should be.
- Review what is expected of current VCSE representatives on public sector boards and decision-making forums, including any financial arrangements. Find out if and how they share information and communicate with the wider VCSE sector.
- Plan for any changes in representatives so there’s enough time to make transitions and develop new relationships.
- Make time and space in public sector meetings to explore the key issues affecting VCSE organisations. Look into how to address them together.
- Identify opportunities for representatives to listen to other VCSE voices and report back.
- Put clear mechanisms, processes and approaches in place. These ensure the voices of VCSE organisations are heard and their views are captured.
- Support VCSE representatives to reach out to those rarely involved to hear their perspectives. Use existing relationships to encourage open and honest dialogue about issues of power and inequality.
- Use the experience and insights of VCSE networks to help shape public sector decisions more actively.
