Influencing

To tackle climate change and build stronger communities, we need action at every level - local, regional, and national. The ‘influencing’ theme reminds us that everyone needs to be involved and aware for real change to happen. Calderdale Climate Action Partnership is seen as a leader in this work. We’re stronger when we speak and act together.

Highlights

  • Calderdale’s Citizens’ Jury on Retrofit shared their ideas with local leaders at a special event in Halifax Town Hall.
  • We shared our ideas with climate leaders from other councils at the UK100 Climate Leadership Academy in Autumn 2025.

Challenges

  • Our Influencing Strategy from 2024 needs an update. Some quick actions are done, but bigger ones need more planning.
  • We need to find more opportunities to empower communities to lead and take part.

How we are doing

Our priorities for next year

Let’s work together - use our networks to spread the word. Help people feel confident to speak up. Review what matters most and make sure we’re focusing on the right things.

Case study: Calderdale Citizens’ Jury on Retrofit

Calderdale held its first Citizens’ Jury to help improve homes. The meeting was funded by Innovate UK. It was run by Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub, with help from the Carbon Co-Op and Calderdale Council. A group of homeowners met six times to learn and share ideas. Their goal was to come up with ideas to make 75,000 homes warmer, greener, and cheaper to heat. They suggested things like offering loans, finding ways to cut costs, changing planning rules and ways to increase awareness.
