Open space, sport and recreation strategy and action plan
Made by the Council in 2015. It is a summary of work carried out through 2013-15. It updates the Council's open space database and builds on the findings of the 2006 study.
It covers a review of amenity open space in Calderdale and gives the Council evidence that can be used:
- To develop policy and future reviews of policy documents.
- To inform the Land allocations and designations process.
- In determining planning applications.
- In planning appeals.
- As initial data to inform future open space strategies.
- To provide further analysis of the Open space, sport and recreation study in the light of emerging practice.
The Open Space update's key principles are to protect, provide and enhance well designed, high quality, accessible open spaces.
These are to be well maintained, safe and improve the quality of life for Calderdale's residents and visitors.

The playing pitch strategy
This offers guidance and support in order to understand and assess the need for playing pitches in Calderdale. It is a strategic framework for the maintenance and improvement of existing outdoor sports pitches. This includes ancillary facilities between 2017 and 2022 and covers these playing pitches and outdoor sports:
- Football
- Cricket.
- Rugby Union.
- Rugby League.
- Hockey.
- Tennis.
- Bowls.

Built facilities strategy
This report (completed 2017) looks at Calderdale's indoor sports facilities for 2017 to 2027.
Its focus is to offer clear direction to all partners. So they can plan/develop a flexible, efficient and sustainable range of community based sport and leisure facilities for Calderdale.
This will give residents the chance to be physically active and healthier. Also, to develop their sporting ambitions within their local community.
