Being a parent is a big responsibility and a personal experience that can be:
- complicated;
- challenging;
- very rewarding.
It also has a significant impact on the whole family.
We work to make sure parents and families get the support they need, when they need it. This helps all children experience confident, positive and strong parenting from birth through their teenage years.
In Calderdale we have invested in good quality programmes to support families.

Relationships Matter
Healthy relationships are critical to our holistic wellbeing, but conflict will happen between parents. When it is often, intense and poorly resolved it can have a damaging impact on children. Some ways children are affected are that they:
- feel anxious;
- feel responsible;
- are angry;
- cry;
- act out behaviours;
- have low self-esteem.
Healthy parental relationships help to support children's resilience and social skills as well as their emotional and educational development.
