Before your collections, please consider: What goes in my bins, bags and boxes?
Please make sure our large vehicles can access your street:
- Do not park close to or opposite junctions and fold in your wing mirrors.
- Cut back trees and bushes that overhang.
Householders
- Recycling (every week):
- Put recycling bags, food caddy and box at the edge of your property, where it meets the highway. This should be done by 6am on your collection day.
- Return all your containers, to your storage point, as soon as possible after they have been emptied.
-
Waste:
- Once you have recycled all you can, the rest goes in your wheelie bin. The lid must be fully closed with no extra waste at the side. Place your wheelie bin at the edge of your property, where it meets the highway. This should be done by 6am on your collection day.
- If your property cannot have a wheelie bin, we will take four blue bags (maximum) from your storage point. Please make sure the bags are securely tied for the crew to collect.
-
You must not put any of these in the general waste bin (see our A-Z):
- Garden waste (take to a HWRC or sign up to our garden waste service);
- needles and syringes (see clinical waste);
- gas bottles and cylinders;
- batteries;
- paint;
- hazardous waste.
- or bulky waste.
If you struggle with your waste, you could be able to:
- have an assisted collection;
- apply for an extra wheelie bin:
Request new or replacement bins, bags or boxes
Flats and apartments
Where flats and apartments are above 3 storeys high, the Council will normally offer a communal recycling service. This service sees wheelie bins kept in communal bin stores.
We provide a mixed collection of:
- Paper, thin card, cartons (known as Tetra Pak).
- Cans and plastics.
- Glass (bottles and jars only) and corrugated cardboard.
This depends on vehicle access and storage space being available.
Note: We are not able to offer a food waste collection from flats.
See your caretaker, landlord or management company if you live in a flat or apartment and you:
- Are not sure where your recycling is stored;
- or would like more recycling bins.
